life is perfectly just During one of my visits to Los Angeles, a car picked me up at the airport to drive me to my hotel. A newspaper awaited me on the backseat. Printed across the paper's front page was a shocking image: a Palestinian man carrying his dead eight-year-old son. The man's face expressed his immense grief. Looking at the image, I felt his suffering in my heart. I understood his was my suffering too. Separation is illusion. One's suffering is the suffering of all, just as one's joy contributes to the joy of all. Injustice and atrocity are not isolated or regional. The whole is like the human body; if your hand is hurt, the rest of you is not indifferent to that local pain. How can the world be perfectly perfect with all the suffering in the world, the wars, the atrocities, the hunger, and the injustices? Each injustice in the world is perfect because it awakens us more to the truth that the human experience, the global experience, is one. If we can understand and internalize this truth, it will lead us to harmony. It is perfect because it has to be perfect. life is sacred life is everything everything is sacred |
