creation guides evolution I lived in the Amazon jungle for several years, working with different indigenous groups of people. Their intrinsic beauty and instinctive regard for nature persisted despite interference from the outside world. I stayed with them and learned by means of observation. Some of these natural laws I gathered from them, but I learned more from the Amazon itself. The sixth law of the jungle presented itself to me clearly one day as I was strolling through the jungle with my very good friend and mentor Lazaro, the Takana shaman. He was sharing his knowledge with me about the flora and fauna. His sharp eyes never missed a detail, and he suddenly caught sight of a rare orchid in full bloom. We both stood in front of the flower in total reverence, for we could see the creator so clearly manifested in this flower. The orchid looked like a wasp, down to the smallest possible detail. It had the shape of a wasp, the perfect dimensions of a wasp, the eyes of a wasp, the antennae of a wasp, and the fine wings of a wasp, crisscrossed with tiny mesh lines. It was a wasp. Except of course that it wasn't a wasp, it was an orchid. In this orchid I saw the face of the creator, and my eyes opened to see the miracles of the mundane. You see, Darwin alone cannot explain that flower; his theory of adaptation to change, the survival of the fittest, can explain the mechanics of the flower but not the intelligence of it. The process of perfection through genetic manipulation, through trial and error, fails to recognize a truth that is so apparent. That process is guided by an underlying intelligence that guides all things and all beings. The orchid has no mirror, no set of colored pencils. Nature produced that precise image of a wasp - its shape, color, and the fine details - from within. Here creation is apparent and one needs to be completely blind not to see that. Life is a miracle. It is naive to confuse the explanation of life with the creation of life. |
