We have been trained all our lives to react to circumstances, because people believe life happens to us, not for us. If life happens to you, you must react to it, constantly on the defensive. If life happens for you, you need only observe, contemplate, and align yourself with it. From observation and contemplation, understanding is born. From understanding comes clarity. From clarity grows right and purposeful action. We cannot be taught understanding. It is unique to each of us. But we can be taught observation and contemplation. This process has a certain spiritual quality, for looking inside of oneself or contemplating the mundane is considered by man to be a spiritual activity. The word spiritual is too charged in many societies, and people find it difficult to explore any activity that is considered spiritual, particularly if it is not a part of an organized religion. This attitude is born from the false belief that there is a conflict between the spiritual and the mundane. Yet spirituality is nothing more than contemplation of the mundane. The laws of the jungle are spiritual as much as practical, for there is no separation between the practical and the spiritual. Life is sacred and spiritual, and the mundane is life. Doubt what you were taught and observe for yourself, contemplating until understanding rises in you. This process is not owned by any religion. It is an innate ability that exists within each of us, and each individual has to walk the path alone. We are not puppets. We are not sheep led over the precipice by a blind shepherd. We are life itself. |
