Adaptation To Change Is The Art Of Survival
The Takana are not unique in their environment. The Amazon - in fact, the entire forest - is quick to adapt to any new situation. When the flood comes, some species migrate to the hills while others crawl, hop, or swim in ready to feast. Change is first a reality and second an opportunity. No species in the jungle complains and no species tries to hold onto the old. They are not attached to anything but the sacredness of the continuity of life. When the season changes they adjust immediately and naturally to the new situation and thrive in it. If they didn't, they wouldn't survive.

One can learn a lot from the Amazon jungle and its dwellers. The Amazon is home to almost 50 percent of the species on earth, yet there is room for all. Each species finds its own special and unique niche to make its home. No home is bigger than what is needed, efficient simplicity is the guiding line, and there is no greed. No species accumulates more that it can eat, and no species kills for ideology or fun. Resources are unlimited if one is creative, so why compete against, exploit, or deprive others?

Adaptation to change is the art of survival and survival is the only game that is played in the Amazon. All species in the Amazon are alert and vibrant, constantly attentive to the slightest fluctuation in their environment. They have very few habits and patterns to follow. Instead, they rely on sharp senses and quick assessment of new situations. A rapid decision is followed by unhesitating action. Theirs is a lesson we should all learn.
