| A Beast Is Body First |
|
a beast is body first A beast is perfectly attuned to the body. Yet humans live as if we are a mind and a mind only. We believe the human mind places us above all other beasts. We are enslaved to the mind, totally engrossed with it, controlled by it with no control of it. Indeed, the mind contains tremendous practical wisdom and is responsible for the astonishing progress we have made in the world. The mind is a problem-solving machine, more efficient than any computer ever developed. The mind's purpose is to do its work, to solve problems, to make inquiries, to investigate, to explore. We can praise the human mind endlessly, for it is awesome indeed. But, being human, we give ourselves over to the rule of the mind. The whims of the mind control our lives, and we serve the mind blindly. The mind commands and we obey, oblivious to consequences, no matter how grave the price. But the purpose of the mind is to analyze, to solve problems. And when there are no problems to be solved, the mind will create them. It will tell us that we are separate from all other things, from this world. Our sense of separation is the work of the mind. There is more to living than the realm of the mind. |
